Ireti Kingibe, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, recently voiced concerns about the difficult living conditions in Abuja.

In a recent report by Punch, Kingibe highlighted the harsh reality faced by many residents of the capital. She said people often ask her for help with money and food. However, she explained that simply giving out money or food to everyone wouldn’t be a sustainable solution, and it could even lead to her being seen as corrupt.

Kingibe said her focus is on advocating for policies that improve people’s lives in a lasting way. She disclosed that one key issue she’s working on is rent reform. She said she is pushing for changes that would allow tenants to pay their rent on a quarterly or yearly basis, instead of being forced to pay two years upfront, which puts an additional burden on many families.
