According to a video that was published by PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday from 0.30, one of the members of the House of Representatives, Cyril Hart has stated that the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun must relinquish her GCON honour so that the House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas can have it.
Hart said the reason is that the National Honour Act of 1963 says that only 2 persons can be conferred with the honour within a calendar year. He said one has been given to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio so the second one should be given to Tajudeen Abbas.
According to Cyril Hart;
“What this simply means is that GCON shall not exceed 2 in every calendar year in line with the National Honour act. So, if the Senate President has been given one, it means the CJN must relinquish her own for the speaker”.
