Shehu Sani, a prominent Nigerian politician and human rights activist, recently made a notable statement on his verified Twitter account, drawing attention to the ongoing instability in Burkina Faso.

He remarked, “Of all the Military Heads of State in Africa, that of Burkina Faso is the most targeted by the assassins.”

This statement sheds light on the growing political volatility in Burkina Faso, where the country has been embroiled in a series of coups since 2022. The military government, which rose to power after the ousting of former President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, has faced repeated attempts on the lives of its leaders. The country has struggled with widespread insurgencies, driven by extremist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, which have destabilized the region.

Sani’s observation comes amid increasing violence, particularly in the Sahel region, where Burkina Faso finds itself at the forefront of a broader conflict. The military junta, led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has been under intense pressure from both insurgents and internal dissent. This situation has made the leadership of Burkina Faso a prime target for violent actors seeking to capitalize on the country’s political chaos.
