In a recent interview with Channels TV FROM 4:56, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara shed light on what he perceives as a prevalent attitude among Nigerians. According to Dogara, many citizens, including the country’s elite, tend to dwell on national issues without proposing concrete solutions.

Dogara expressed concern over the widespread inclination to consider emigration as a response to the country’s challenges. He suggested that this approach overlooks the fact that other nations face their own sets of problems.

The former Speaker pointed out that discussions, even among the educated classes, often revolve around identifying issues rather than formulating strategies to address them. In his view, this tendency has led to an exaggeration of the country’s problems, making them appear more daunting than they actually are.

Dogara’s comments imply that a shift in national discourse is necessary, moving from problem identification to solution-oriented debates. He advocates for a more proactive approach in tackling the country’s challenges.

In his own words, Dogara stated, “The problem with Nigerians is that they talk about problems, and want to leave Nigeria because of problems as if these problems do not exist in other countries. Nobody is talking about the solutions, even among the elites. When you sit with them, everybody is talking about problems. We have elevated these problems to mountains, and nobody is talking about solutions.”

This statement underscores Dogara’s call for a change in perspective, urging Nigerians to focus on developing and implementing practical solutions to improve the nation’s future, rather than simply highlighting its difficulties.
