A leader of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, during an interview with The Punch, talked about alleged marginalization in the South-East region, the recent loss of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State governorship election, high cost of living in Nigeria and other related matters.
When he was talking about the plans by some Igbo secessionists to achieve the Sovereign State of Biafra, Joe Igbokwe said that he was not in support of the movement and that it is better for Igbo people to remain unified with other Nigerians. He alleged that a particular state in Nigeria is bigger than the whole of South-East, depicting that South East presently is not capable of standing alone as a sovereign state.
He said, “This situation can’t continue. I’ve written to the President regarding the creation of an additional state in the South-East. However, as Igbo people, we must also do our part.
There’s something called cultural competence and the management of emotional intelligence that we need to master as a community.”
Further talking, he said, “I suffered greatly for speaking this truth; my house was burnt down in my village as a consequence. That was the sacrifice I had to make, and I have been labelled as anti-Igbo.”
