Punch News reports that the Kogi State Police Command has recently apprehended a young man named Jeremiah for the abduction and murder of a young girl called Damilola.

Based on the incident’s details, the victim was a first-year Biology student at the Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State. The perpetrator, Jeremiah, is from Kaduna State and is reportedly also a student. However, he informed the police that he had come to Kogi for work.

The suspect had lured Damilola to an uncompleted building and kidnapped her. He then asked her family for ransom and they paid him ₦400,000, but he did not release her. He stated that he killed her because she had seen his face and he didn’t want her to escape and expose him.

“The suspect said he kidnapped her and demanded a ransom of N400,000 from the parent. According to him, after collecting the money, he strangled the girl and mutilated her body. He later buried her body in the Lokoja area. On Wednesday, he took the police to the location where he had buried her. A video shared on social media shows Jeremiah confessing to the crime, claiming it was his “first time.”

Jeremiah demanded 10 million Naira from Damilola’s family before being tracked down and arrested by the police. In a viral video shared on September 12, 2024, after his arrest, he led the police to the location in the bush where her body was found. However, the police observed that certain organs, including her heart, lungs, and private parts, were missing.
