A Former Adamawa State Commissioner For Information, Ahmad Sajoh has alleged that it is wrong for the Nigeria Labour Congress to accuse the President of betrayal following the recent fuel hike. He argued that the Presidency is an office that demands respect, regardless of who occupies it.
He emphasized that when an agreement is breached, the appropriate terminology is “breach of agreement”, which is an actionable offense in a court of law. He identified that using the term “betrayal” is incorrect and inflammatory. He highlighted the principles of industrial relations while emphasizing the importance of signed agreements resulting from negotiations between workers’ representatives and employers. He stated that there was no agreement reached between the President and Labour that the fuel price will not be increased.
He said in an interview with Arise TV From 2:58, ”I believe that in industrial relations; it demands that when workers representatives and their employees hold negotiations, the end result would be a sighed agreement. At times not only the representative of the workers and the employers that signs. If there is an arbitrator involved or some witnesses, they also sign and that agreement is supposed to be made public.
To that extent, we did not see an agreement in the public space that indicates that Labour had an agreement with. the President not to increase the fuel price. Labour attacking the President by saying he betrayed them is a little bit wrong. The Presidency is an office and regardless of who occupies it, it must be respected. When there is an agreement and one side fails to uphold that agreement, the correct terminology is the breach of agreement. And the breach of agreement is an actionable even in the Court; so you don’t call it betrayal but a breach of agreement.”….Sée_Móre
