The Director of Media of the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, Kassim Afegbua has expressed his concern over seeing the Edo Security Network mounting checkpoints along the road from Benin to Okpella, wearing black t-shirts and carrying guns.

He called for the Inspector General of Police to send a crack team to ensure a free and fair election in the forthcoming Edo election. He noted how they have gotten suspicious voice notes from the Edo Security Network which suggest they may be planning to disrupt the election. He also urged the Inspector General of Police to disband the Edo Security Network for the purpose of the election to prevent any potential violence or intimidation of voters.

He said in an interview with AIT From 19:19, ”We are praying that the Inspector general of police will send his crack team to Edo State to ensure that there is freedom for voters to exercise their right to vote. And to ensure that votes are counted and results are documented properly. The kind of signals that we have been getting has not been really good. We have intercepted a lot of dangerous voice notes by the Edo security Network. They are telling themselves what to do in the Election and they are monitoring major checkpoints.

I traveled to Okpella yesterday from Benin and I saw the Edo Security Network in 6 places mounting checkpoints. And you see them wearing black t-shirts with Edo security Network written on then. They are carrying guns and all other security agencies tools. But we will not allow them to operate on election day and that is why we are crying to the Inspector General of Police to please disband Edo Security Network for the purpose of this election.”….V¡ew = Moré
