In a candid interview on Arise TV from 18:22, the former All Progressive Congress Governorship Candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole expressed concern over the growing trend of individuals distancing themselves from the guidance of their religious leaders, such as Imams and pastors.
He cautioned that this detachment from religious orthodoxy could have severe consequences for Nigeria’s progress.
Cole questioned what alternative beliefs or principles individuals might adopt if they reject the guidance of their religious leaders.
He underscored the potential risks associated with this shift and emphasized the need for a path that fosters unity and advancement in Nigeria rather than division and uncertainty.
According to Tonye Cole, “There is one thing that is going on right now that is really worrying. You have Muslims who are no longer listening and believing what their Imams are saying. You have Christians who longer want to hear and believe what their pastors are saying. It is a very dangerous line that we are towing. Let’s assume they are freeing themselves, if they free themselves from religious orthodoxy, what are they following? Not putting an alternative that leads to progress in Nigeria is a dangerous thing.”….Vïêw–Môrê
