According to a report by TheCable on Saturday, 4 July, 2026, one of the 11 victims recently abducted in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Destiny Braimah, has recounted his ordeal in the hands of kidnappers, describing how he and other captives were forced to trek through forests as security operatives pursued the criminals.
Braimah shared his experience in an interview reported by TheCable after regaining his freedom. His account comes amid growing concerns over the rising wave of kidnappings across parts of Edo State and other regions of the country.
Recalling the moment he was seized, Braimah said the attackers intercepted him while he was returning from his farm before rounding up more victims. “I was coming from the farm when I met six of them armed with guns and cutlasses. They also captured others, making us 11 victims,” he said.
According to him, the kidnappers constantly moved the hostages from one forest to another in an apparent attempt to evade security operatives. “They took us from one bush to another. At about 6 pm, we heard police shooting. They made us walk throughout the night,” Braimah added, suggesting that security personnel were closing in on the abductors during the operation.
His testimony provides a rare firsthand account of the harsh conditions victims endure while in captivity, including long hours of trekking through difficult terrain under the watch of heavily armed kidnappers.
