In a blunt interview on Channels TV from 5:38, the former commissioner of works in Kano State, Muzau Magaji acknowledged the necessity of reforms in Nigeria but cautioned against directly applying the same strategies used in Lagos to the entire nation.
He emphasized that Lagos’ prosperity and productivity enable it to withstand increased taxation and inflation, which might not be the case for the rest of the country.
Magaji’s statement underscores the importance of tailoring reform measures to the specific needs and capacities of different regions in Nigeria, ensuring that the welfare of citizens remains a top priority amidst efforts to drive growth and development.
According to Muzau Magaji, “I understand the problem that we inherited and the reforms are necessary but they need to be tempered, and the reason is simple. If you (Tinubu) do what you are doing to Nigeria today with Lagos, Lagos is prosperous enough. It is productive enough to withstand the stock of taxations and inflations. Lagos has the capacity to withstand that and grow, and then return the tax you want to get. If he (Tinubu) does what he did to Lagos in Nigeria, 90 percent of Nigerians will not have the capacity to bear those difficulties and challenges.”….Vìêw–Morê
