The former Minister of Education and Chairman of World Trade Organization, WTO, Oby Ezekwesili has reacted after human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong said the police didn’t address the issue of thugs threatening people not to protest in Lagos state.

The lawyer made the comment on his official X handle after attended a virtual meeting organized by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

During the meeting, Inibehe Effiong said he asked the IGP if he will direct the Commissioner of Police in Lagos state to arrest the thugs who were seen threatening people in a viral video but the IGP never addressed it.

Inibehe Effiong wrote on his page;

“I also asked him if he will direct the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to arrest the said thugs to serve as a deterrent to those who are planning to cause unrest. The IGP, sadly, did not address this particular question, despite that he was reminded of my question by other participants. The IGP also advised that the protests should be confined to specific locations”.

Reacting to the statement, Oby Ezekwesili urged the Inspector General of Police to take the threats serious. She said the IGP must not wave it off because similar thing was witnessed during the EndSars protests.
