The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has raised serious concerns about the growing insecurity in the South-West, revealing that terrorists have killed about seven monarchs in the region and in Yoruba-speaking parts of Kwara State.

In an interview with VANGUARD on Saturday, March 21, 2026, Adams explained that traditional rulers are increasingly being targeted, and the situation extends beyond monarchs to community heads, known as ‘baales’, across Yorubaland.

He recalled that he had sounded the alarm in November 2025, but lamented that no governor or security agency reached out to him to discuss possible solutions. Adams described the silence of leaders and security authorities as troubling, stressing that the lack of response has left communities vulnerable.

The Yoruba generalissimo urged authorities to act decisively to protect traditional rulers and grassroots leaders, warning that continued attacks pose a grave threat to cultural heritage and local governance in Yorubaland.
