According to a recent post by Daily Post on Tuesday December 9, 2025, Controversial Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has asserted that the Nigerian military is incapable of defeating bandits through combat.
He has instead called on the federal government to enter into negotiations with these armed groups to deescalate the insecurity plaguing the North-West region.
Speaking in a BBC interview, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi stated that armies traditionally struggle against guerrilla fighters, and Nigeria is not an exception. “Where have you ever seen the military defeat guerrilla fighters? Nowhere,” the cleric argued.
He emphasized that the Nigerian military action alone is insufficient, referencing the military’s own position that kinetic force accounts for only a quarter of the solution in such conflicts.
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi’s remarks come at a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security agencies to collaborate with governors to ensure the release of all kidnapped victims. View, More,
