Former senator and human rights advocate, Shehu Sani, has condemned the reported destruction of butcher tables and market equipment belonging to Hausa traders in Enugu State. In a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Sani urged the Enugu State Government to urgently investigate the incident and ensure that those involved are brought to justice.

Describing the hostility as condemnable and unacceptable, Sani insisted that no Nigerian should be targeted because of ethnic origin. He reminded the public that the Nigerian constitution guarantees every citizen the right to live and pursue legitimate business anywhere in the country without fear of harassment or intimidation.

He stated that protecting peaceful traders is a responsibility the government must not abdicate, especially in a multi-ethnic nation where economic survival depends heavily on free movement and inter-regional trade.

Sani further warned that acts of aggression against lawful business owners pose a serious threat to national cohesion. According to him, such incidents could provoke retaliatory sentiments in other parts of the country if not handled swiftly and fairly.

He called on the Enugu State authorities to not only verify the authenticity of the footage but also identify the perpetrators and prevent similar occurrences in the future. View, More,
