Dele Farotimi, a renowned human rights activist and legal practitioner has taken to his official X handle to react after Nigeria’s intervention led to the restoration of peace in Benin Republic. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he asked a curious question regarding the incident that has grown to become a national discourse.

The Nigerian Air Force launched a precision airstrike on fleeing Benin Republic coup plotters, an act which was widely interpreted in different ways by different individuals.

The intervention, which led to the restoration of peace and hence, preservation of democracy in Benin Republic generated mixed reactions from different quarters after the reports surfaced online.

Reacting, Dele Farotimi, a respected human rights activist, writer and legal practitioner in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, asked a serious question regarding the incident.

According to his statements, the outspoken activist pointed out that the ability of Nigeria to protect and restore democracy in a neighboring country while it’s own was in jeopardy calls for serious reflections.

It can be recalled that in the aftermath of the failed coup by the mutineers, a precision airstrike was ordered by the armed forces to take out the fleeing coup plotters, an act which drew widespread condemnation.
