According to a report by Iranian News Agency IRNA on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, a senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that a previous Iranian missile strike near what he described as the United States’ most strategic military position in the Gulf forced Washington to reconsider further military escalation. Speaking in newly published remarks, the IRGC chief asserted that Qatar hosts “the most important American airbase in the region,” and that Iran had targeted the area with a barrage of missiles during a past confrontation.

“We fired 14 missiles at it,” the commander stated, referring to the U.S. airbase in Qatar. According to him, the attack prompted a direct response from American officials. “After our attack, the Americans declared that if you do not strike, we will no longer strike either,” he said, suggesting that Iran’s show of force effectively halted a cycle of retaliation.

While the claims could not be independently verified, they reflect Iran’s continued insistence that its military strategy is rooted in deterrence and readiness to respond forcefully to external threats. The IRGC chief said Iran’s adversaries were well aware of the potential consequences of confronting the Islamic Republic. “The enemy knows that in case of any anti-Iran action, the response will be harsher and more crushing than the past,” he warned.

The commander also used the opportunity to underline the growing importance of technological advancement within Iran’s armed forces. He stressed that the future of warfare demands significant upgrades in military capabilities, urging investment in research and innovation. According to him, Iran must integrate the latest technological tools into its defense infrastructure to maintain an advantage in a rapidly evolving security landscape.
