Mrs. Adenike Ajayi, a resident of Ado Ekiti, has shared her perspective on the recent drop in food prices across Nigeria, especially as the festive season draws near. She noted that the cost of staple items such as rice, beans, and garri has seen a significant decline compared to the same period last year.

Speaking in an interview with LEADERSHIP on Saturday December 6 2025, she explained that while some Nigerians still experience stable or rising prices, many households are beginning to feel relief due to improved food supply and seasonal harvests.

Ajayi recalled how inflation had previously driven prices up following the 2023 fuel subsidy removal and insecurity in farming regions, but said the current trend offers hope to consumers.

According to her, the difference is striking when compared to last year’s market rates.

Ajayi said, “By this time last year, a rubber of rice was sold for N3500, beans (white/red) between ₦3,500 and ₦5,000, garri between ₦700 and ₦1,000, a bag of rice and beans were close to ₦90,000 but now, there have been a reduction of over 40 per cent on almost all the food items.” View, More,
