Retired Major General Pat Achem-Vingir has drawn attention to what he described as a firm and unambiguous directive issued by former Chief of Defence Staff and current Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, during a recent engagement with frontline troops.
Speaking in an interview from 27:32 on Channels Television, Achem-Vingir said Musa’s message underscores a renewed determination to confront heavily armed criminal groups destabilizing communities across the country.
Achem-Vingir explained that Musa did not mince words while addressing personnel, noting that the Minister made it clear that troops must act decisively when confronted with armed threats. According to him, Musa’s statement served as both a warning to violent actors and a reassurance to citizens that the armed forces have been empowered to respond swiftly to imminent danger.
Describing the directive, Achem-Vingir stated: “He said yesterday that he was addressing troops indirectly telling them if you see somebody armed, do not wait for instruction or orders to take them out.” He said this level of clarity reflects the gravity of Nigeria’s security challenges and the need for front-line operatives to respond quickly in order to prevent attacks, protect civilians and neutralize threats before they escalate.
The retired General argued that Musa’s stance aligns with global counterinsurgency practices, where rapid response to armed aggression is often the difference between saving lives and suffering mass casualties. He added that the Minister’s message also communicates to the troops that they have full backing from the highest levels of defence leadership. View, More,
