In a significant address amidst Nigeria’s escalating security challenges, prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has called for divine intervention against those responsible for the nation’s widespread insecurity and violence.

According to the Daily Post Nigeria report on Thursday December 4, 2025, Sheikh Gumi posted a prayer on his Facebook page, seeking divine retribution upon the perpetrators, enablers, and beneficiaries of the ongoing bloodshed.

This statement is particularly timely given the intensification of abductions and attacks across various regions, underscoring the cleric’s consistent advocacy for dialogue and reform in addressing banditry and insurgency. Sheikh Gumi, recognized for his influential role in mediating with armed groups, emphasized the necessity of exposure and immediate punishment without causing harm to innocent citizens.

The core of Sheikh Gumi’s message was a supplication targeting a broad spectrum of individuals, encompassing both domestic and foreign actors. He prayed for divine wrath upon anyone who initiated, supported, or derived material or immaterial gains from the insecurity, as well as those who rejoiced in the loss of lives or deliberately failed to intervene.

The prayer, articulated in both Arabic and English, stated: “Ya Allah! Whoever initiated or is behind this insecurity and bloodbath in Nigeria, whether foreign or citizen, or has any benefit, material or otherwise, or is even happy that people are being killed, or willingly did nothing to stop it, may by Your divine power be exposed and Your anger poured upon them and punished immediately without harm to the innocent. Amin.” This invocation reflects a blend of spiritual condemnation and a call for accountability in a crisis that has claimed numerous lives and disrupted communities nationwide.

Recent incidents underscore the severity of the security situation, aligning with Sheikh Gumi’s statement. Last month, armed bandits raided the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun in the Eruku area of Kwara State, abducting several worshippers during a service. Fortunately, 38 of the victims were subsequently released.

Similarly, in Kano State’s Tsanyawa Local Government Area, 10 individuals were kidnapped from the Biresawa and Tsundu communities just last week. These abductees were freed through the efforts of Operation MESA troops under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, highlighting sporadic successes in rescue operations amidst persistent threats.
