Former Senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabiru Garba Marafa, has renewed his warning about the worsening insecurity in the state, drawing attention to the extensive human suffering caused by years of violent attacks.
His remarks highlight how deeply the crisis has scarred communities and the urgent need for meaningful intervention.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television from 3:21, Marafa stated that insecurity has persisted for a long time, but it took the intervention of the United States President, Donald Trump, before the Nigerian president took steps to restructure the country’s security architecture, beginning with the dissolution of the armed forces’ top hierarchy and the appointment of a new Defence Minister.
Marafa praised Trump for speaking up about the killing of Christians in Nigeria, even though many Nigerians criticized him for defending the Christian community as a Christian president.
He explained that many Muslims are also being killed in Nigeria, particularly in his home state, Zamfara. However, the fact that no Muslim president has spoken up about the killing of Muslims does not mean a Christian president cannot show concern.
He commended the US president, adding that his intervention would not only protect Christians but also Muslims who are being killed.
According to Marafa:
“I come from Zamfara State where people are killed almost on a daily basis, and 99% of them are Muslims.”
Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central in the Senate from 2011 to 2019, has consistently raised the alarm over the scale of destruction. As far back as 2019, he moved a motion in the Senate describing the killings as a daily tragedy and calling for urgent federal action to address the escalating violence.
Following his appeal at the time, the Senate endorsed a series of recommendations, including a 10-year rehabilitation strategy aimed at helping victims rebuild their lives. View, More,
