During the Senate screening of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for the position of Minister of Defence, Senate President Godswill Akpabio offered him a strong message about leadership and responsibility. Akpabio reminded Musa that his new role places him fully in the civilian space, no longer as a military officer but as a member of the government team expected to guide national decisions.
In a video from 11:13 shared by Viable TV, he stressed that serving as Minister of Defence is not just about managing soldiers or overseeing operations. It also involves giving honest, direct advice to the President, even when that advice may be uncomfortable. Akpabio explained that the President has shown openness to correction and expects his ministers to speak up when necessary. This, he noted, is an important part of good governance.
The Senate President also warned against allowing politics to interfere with national security. According to him, Nigeria faces serious security challenges, and the only way to make progress is through firm decisions, consistent action, and genuine patriotism. He encouraged Musa to remain courageous, focused, and loyal to the Nigerian people, putting their safety and well-being above all other interests.
Akpabio added that Musa is being trusted with a major responsibility because of his record of service and commitment to the country. He assured him of the Senate’s support and prayers as he steps into a role that demands strength, integrity, and wisdom.
In his words, “You’re no longer in uniform, you’re now part of us, you’ll be wearing Agbada. So advise the Commander in Chief.” View, More,
