Newly appointed Minister of Defence and former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd.) has issued a strong warning about the escalating violence perpetrated by bandits and terrorist groups across the country, describing the attackers as reckless, destructive, and heavily influenced by hard drugs.
Musa spoke during his appearance before the Senate, in remarks later featured on TV Platinum, where he outlined the urgent security priorities facing Nigeria.
Addressing the senators, Musa lamented the scale of killings in rural communities, saying the armed groups responsible have no regard for human life. “They don’t care who they kill. These are bunch of evil people and they are on drugs. We must stop the killings. Nigerians must not be killed, anyone in Nigeria must not be killed,” he stated, stressing that no society could progress under such fear and brutality.
He assured lawmakers that under his leadership, the Defence Ministry would intensify coordinated military operations, strengthen intelligence networks, and close communication gaps between security agencies. Musa insisted that security forces must regain full territorial control and restore the confidence of citizens who have endured years of unprovoked attacks.
The Defence Minister also highlighted the need for improved equipment, modern surveillance technology, and enhanced troop welfare, arguing that frontline personnel require better support to confront highly armed criminal networks. He further emphasised community engagement as a critical pillar for identifying hideouts, tracking movements, and preventing attacks before they escalate.
Senators expressed concern about rising casualties in parts of the North-West and North-Central, urging Musa to deliver measurable progress in the coming months. They also called for stronger protection of farmers, schools, and transportation routes. View, More,
