A resident of Rafi Local Government Area in Niger State has shared a chilling account of a night-time attack by armed groups, shedding light on the growing insecurity plaguing the region.
This was revealed in a report published by VANGUARD on Sunday, November 30 2025, highlighting the persistent threat posed by Mahmuda factions, criminal gangs, and armed herders operating across the state.
The statement came after the resident was asked about the impact of recent attacks on farming and daily life in the area.
The resident described how the attackers, often arriving in large numbers on motorcycles, storm villages under the cover of darkness, abducting people and looting livestock.
However, despite military interventions, including airstrikes and ground patrols, the assailants vanish into nearby forests before security forces arrive, only to return days later.
The resident from Rafi said;
“They come suddenly at night, take people and animals. We cannot farm or go to the market safely. Army comes, they disappear into the forest.” View, More,
