The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has explained the reason why he didn’t respond when some people claimed that the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, didn’t arrest bandits because they released victims voluntarily.

His reaction was contained in a video that was posted on the official X handle of the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin on November 27, 2025.

In the video that surfaced, the IGP said he didn’t respond to the statement because it’s not true.

Here is what the Inspector General of Police said;

“The statement that has been going viral that the Inspector General of Police said we didn’t arrest the bandits because they voluntarily released those victims. I expect people to know that no IGP will make such a statement and that’s why I didn’t bother to respond to it. I’m talking about it now because somebody asked the question.

“How can an IGP say that we didn’t arrest them because they voluntarily released the people. That’s a careless statement, I didn’t say so. It’s not the first time they will publish something that the IG didn’t know about”. View, More,
