According to a report by Channels TV, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Senator Ali Ndume has urged an immediate review and enhancement of the welfare package for Nigerian soldiers, warning that the existing conditions fall short for those risking their lives against increasing security challenges nationwide.
He made this appeal during a Senate plenary focused on addressing funding shortfalls within the armed forces.
During the session, Ndume voiced concern over the harsh conditions frontline troops endure despite the high risks involved in their duties.
He emphasized, “Improving welfare is not just about boosting morale; it’s critical for operational effectiveness,” as soldiers continue to battle insurgency, banditry, and other violent crimes on multiple fronts.
As he presented his submission, Ndume emphasized the current pay structure for junior soldiers and stressed the need for additional revisions.
He stated, “A private in the Nigerian army now receives N100,000. The daily allowance used to be N1,500. The president has now increased it to N5,000.” View, More,
