Egyptian-born National Security and Geopolitics Researcher, Khaled Hassan — who also serves as a Council Member at President Isaac Herzog’s Voice of the People, an international body of 150 leaders representing 15 million Jews worldwide — has ignited widespread discussion following a powerful message posted on his verified Twitter account.

In the lengthy statement, Hassan delivered a deeply personal defense of Israel, describing it as the only genuine democracy in the Middle East and the nation that first introduced him to true freedom.

Hassan began his message by asserting that Israel, despite its small population and ongoing security challenges, remains a nation whose democratic values surpass those of any country in the region’s history. “Israel, with its tiny population, even at its darkest hour, is greater than the entire Middle East across its entire history,” he wrote.

Sharing his personal encounters, Hassan noted that the first time he ever experienced genuine freedom was during his time in Israel. According to him, the ability to criticise government leaders openly, even during times of conflict, demonstrated a level of political tolerance and civil liberty he had never witnessed in the Arab world. “As an Egyptian, I could stand in the heart of Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, in the middle of a war, and criticise the Israeli government if I wished. No one would touch me. No one would kill me,” he stated.

Hassan, who previously converted to Judaism, stressed that his support for Israel was not the reason for his conversion. Rather, he embraced Judaism because of the values he said the Jewish people had contributed to the world—values he described as rooted in freedom, justice, and human dignity.

In a direct jab at Western critics, Hassan argued that many in the West fail to appreciate Israel’s democratic resilience because they have never lived under the fear and repression common in authoritarian states. “They don’t know what it’s like to lie awake at night, terrified because you made a single comment criticising the government on social media. Some have vanished for less,” he wrote.

He further condemned extremist groups and anti-Israel movements, insisting that “no amount of Arab money” or online hate groups would ever erase Israel’s democratic identity.

Hassan concluded by reiterating his unwavering loyalty: “This is the Israel I want to introduce to the world. This is my Israel, now and forever.” View, More,
