The Commissioner for Information in Edo State, Kassim Afegbua, has alleged that senior military officers informed him that the recent wave of insecurity in Nigeria is politically motivated to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s chances of winning the 2027 general election.
Afegbua disclosed conversations he had with top government and military officials in an interview with TVC from 2:45. “I’ve had discussions with top government functionaries, top military officers. They confirmed to me that it’s essentially politically motivated actions by these persons. They just want to humble the president, to bring him down, to humble his government, and tell him that he’s not in charge. But I like the fact that there is quick response from the president’s side,” he said.
The commissioner also expressed concern about the lack of reported casualties among kidnappers following rescue operations. He questioned why bandits whose locations are known continue to move freely after hostages are released.
Afegbua called for decisive military action against the criminals, criticizing what he described as reluctance to confront bandits even when their locations were identified. He noted that this hesitation fuels public demands for American assistance in tackling the security crisis. View, More,
