Brigadier General Sani Usman (Rtd), former Director of Army Public Relations, has raised fresh concerns over the source of weapons fueling insurgency in Nigeria’s northern regions.

In an interview from 18:02 shared by Arise News, the retired general questioned how terrorist groups continue to sustain their operations despite ongoing military efforts.

According to him, “Who supplied them with weapons? Some time back in the Northwest, Coca-Cola was ₦3,000 and 5 litres of PMS was ₦20,000 in the bush.”

His comments point to what he described as a complex supply system supporting insurgents in remote areas. He noted that the unusually high cost of everyday items in those locations suggests the presence of organized supply chains and individuals benefiting from the crisis.

Usman stressed that tackling insurgency goes beyond battlefield operations, insisting that authorities must identify and dismantle those providing material support to these groups.

He added that the consistent availability of fuel, food, and weapons to insurgents highlights possible weaknesses in border control and internal security monitoring.

The retired general also underscored the role of local communities in addressing the crisis, explaining that insurgents often depend on nearby networks to survive.
