Human rights lawyer and public affairs commentator Inibehe Effiong has criticised what he described as a lack of follow-through by the Federal Government on its past promises to name and prosecute alleged sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television from 12:31, Effiong referenced an earlier announcement by former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, in which the government stated it had compiled a list of individuals allegedly financing terror activities.

Effiong argued that despite the significance of such a declaration, Nigerians have not seen any concrete outcome or published details since the announcement was made. According to him, the absence of accountability raises questions about the government’s seriousness in tackling the root contributors to insecurity.

“Abubakar Malami, as Attorney General, said they have compiled a list of sponsors of terror; they never did,” Effiong stated during the interview. He added that the matter appears to have faded from public discourse without explanation or updates from the authorities.

The rights activist stressed that identifying and prosecuting terror financiers is central to dismantling violent networks that continue to destabilise communities across the country. Effiong expressed concern that while ordinary citizens continue to suffer the consequences of terrorism, the government has not demonstrated transparency in pursuing those allegedly responsible for funding the operations of extremist groups.

He argued that without decisive action against financiers, efforts to combat insecurity will remain incomplete, regardless of the number of arrests or military operations carried out against perpetrators on the ground. Effiong urged the government to provide clarity on the status of the promised list and to demonstrate its commitment to justice through measurable actions. View, More,
