Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has alleged that he predicted the current crisis engulfing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that this influenced his decision to defect from the party.

Speaking during an interview from 1:32 with Channels TV after formally joining the African Democratic Party (ADC) coalition party, Atiku expressed disappointment with his previous political affiliations. “First and foremost, I was a foundation member of the APC, but I have been thoroughly disappointed with their performance. What has happened to PDP is something that I had predicted, and it has come to pass. It requires experience and intellect, you know, to be able to get these things right. There is no political party that is rancour-free because rancour is part of democratic processes,” he said.

Discussing his new political platform, the former vice president took a swipe at prominent politicians who have not officially declared their allegiance to the ADC. “I believe we are on a legally, constitutionally recognized political platform, no doubt about that. Those who are sitting on the fence don’t belong anywhere, but I believe those who are committed to true democracy, good governance, and a prosperous economy and security will definitely give it to the ADC because it is composed of elements who believe in the sanctity of democratic processes,” Atiku stated.
