In a recent statement via his official X account public affairs analyst, Mahdi Shehu, has issued statement on Nigeria’s current security and political challenges.
He reflected on events from 2014 and accused several top political figures of playing double roles during Nigeria’s difficult years.
“Ten years down the line, Jonathan Blackmailers, all of them have failed woefully with distinction in all aspects of life recording more death per square kilometer, more displaced people, more destitution, more illiterates, more closed businesses, more unemployment.
On account of their decimal failure under the watch of Karma, the same America they invited in 2014 are also being invited by similar desperate people like them and they are all over reaching out to avert a war as if to confirm the cowards in them,” he wrote.
In his post, Shehu recalled how, in 2014, some Nigerian political leaders travelled to the United States to seek international intervention.
According to him, they made the trip because they believed the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan was struggling to contain widespread killings and insecurity.
He said those leaders pushed for foreign assistance, claiming it was the only way to stop the violence.
He accused the same politicians of using different tactics to discredit Jonathan at the time.
Shehu said they used religious leaders, community groups, and various pressure channels to weaken the former president’s credibility.
He stated that they constantly criticised him in public and created an atmosphere of distrust.
Shehu explained that Jonathan eventually stepped down because he wanted to avoid worsening Nigeria’s tensions.
He described Jonathan as someone who chose peace over power.
He argued that the same people who criticised Jonathan ten years ago have now failed to deliver the progress they promised Nigerians.
According to him, the country is currently facing deeper insecurity, more displaced citizens, and a rise in poverty.
He said the economy has suffered, with more people losing their jobs and many small businesses closing.
He believes these outcomes show that those who once appeared confident have not met the expectations they set. View, More,
