Political and Public Affairs Analyst, Dele Fanimo has expressed optimism that the legal journey of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not yet concluded despite the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the court.
Speaking during an interview on Voice of the People TV, Fanimo noted that the ruling, though significant, does not represent the final word on the matter.
Reacting to the judgment, Fanimo said there is still room for further legal contestation. “The joy about all this is, it’s not the final stage, he still has Appeal Court and Supreme Court to argue his case,” he stated, emphasizing that the judicial process includes multiple levels of review designed to ensure fairness and due process.
According to Fanimo, the ability to challenge the verdict at higher courts offers a pathway for both legal redress and a more comprehensive examination of the issues at stake. He explained that the appellate courts provide broader platforms for testing the strength of the evidence, the interpretation of the law, and the overall conduct of the trial.
Fanimo added that such cases, especially those involving high-profile individuals and matters of national sensitivity, benefit from the layered structure of the judicial system. He noted that appeals often reshape the direction of a case, and sometimes even reverse outcomes, depending on the merits presented before the higher courts. View, More,
