Veteran journalist and politician Dele Momodu has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the worsening security situation in Nigeria, following sharp criticism from United States President Donald Trump.
In a post on X on November 22, 2025, Momodu highlighted a Punch newspaper headline quoting Trump, who accused the Nigerian government of doing nothing to stop widespread killings, particularly in the northern region.

Trump had described the violence as unacceptable and threatened to review U.S. aid if the situation persists.Momodu expressed concern over the recent abduction of over 300 students from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State and another incident involving schoolchildren in Kebbi State within the same week.
He urged President Tinubu to refocus the military on its core duty of protecting lives and property, rather than engaging in political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former presidential aspirant praised the past gallantry of the Nigerian Army in regional peacekeeping missions but lamented what he called the politicisation of security agencies. He warned that continued inaction risks further damaging Nigeria’s global image and the safety of its citizens.
