The factional National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Ini Ememobong, spoke to The Punch correspondent about the party’s decision to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the clash that occurred at the party’s national secretariat on Tuesday.
When asked what caused the violence at the PDP national secretariat on Tuesday, he said they were about to hold their inaugural National Working Committee meeting when they discovered that others had allegedly convened a Board of Trustees meeting and a National Executive Council meeting.
He added that he saw on Facebook that the expelled former secretary of the party claimed they had invited the police to prevent or deal with intruders. By the time they arrived, they were teargassed.
He explained that governors, members of the House of Representatives, and party supporters were among them, and many were wounded as people ran to safety, leaving them wondering why such action had been taken.
Few minutes later, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, showed up with some boys, but at the end of the day, the situation was under control.
Further talking, he said, “When the police said that we should leave, our governors agreed to leave, but the FCT minister refused.
He said they were told that if he did not leave, the others would not leave either. He added that the public knew that INEC had not recognised them and that they had no legal basis to have convened that meeting. View, More,
