In a recent video shared on Sunday from 8:15, November 23, 2025, Primate Elijah Ayodele addressed the growing concerns surrounding Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and openly criticized the government’s handling of individuals linked to bandit activities. He expressed frustration over what he described as a pattern of selective enforcement, which he believes has contributed to the persistence of criminal operations across the country.

In the second paragraph, Ayodele made his position clear as he questioned the government’s treatment of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, stating, “Why is the government protecting him? If it were an ordinary person, they would have taken him.” According to the cleric, the government’s reluctance to interrogate Gumi—despite his frequent interactions and negotiations with armed groups—raises serious concerns about fairness and accountability. Ayodele insisted that no citizen should be exempt from questioning when national security is involved.

Ayodele further noted that Nigeria’s security challenges continue to worsen partly because authorities ignore warnings and overlook individuals who could provide vital intelligence. He argued that Gumi’s repeated public engagements with bandit leaders should naturally necessitate government scrutiny, not silence or protection. The cleric maintained that the public deserves transparency regarding why such figures are treated differently.

He urged the federal government to adopt a firmer, more even-handed approach in dealing with those connected, directly or indirectly, to insecurity. According to him, failure to address these disparities will only embolden criminal networks and erode citizens’ trust. Ayodele concluded by emphasizing that Nigeria needs leadership willing to confront difficult truths and take decisive action without fear or favoritism. View, More,
