A Vanguard News publication dated November 22, 2025, reported the account of Adesuyi Joshua, a survivor of the armed invasion on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku. Joshua alleged that while residents were chasing after the attackers, they were met with tear gas from security personnel upon reaching the station, giving the criminals room to flee.

Joshua explained that even though security agents were present around the area during the incident, they did nothing to stop the invasion. According to him, matters worsened when locals organized themselves to run after the gunmen; officers fired shots from the station gate, making them believe the assailants had circled back.

A community youth representative, Shola Peters, criticized the security personnel, accusing them of neglecting their duty despite enjoying the support and resources of the neighbourhood.

Joshua added, “We initially thought the shooters were coming back. But when we approached the police station, they fired tear gas at us instead, giving the attackers an opportunity to get away.”

Hear him speak: “Instead of joining us to pursue the attackers, they stopped us. The IG must probe this division. All they do is arrest youths and label them cultists or Yahoo boys.” View, More,
