Legal analyst Jide Ologun has commented on the tense scenes that unfolded during Nnamdi Kanu’s final courtroom appearance, describing the defendant’s conduct as unnecessary and counterproductive. Speaking during an interview on News Central TV from 11:07 on Thursday, November 20, 2025, he assessed the implications of the outbursts and the wider legal context surrounding the judgment.
Ologun explained that the behaviour displayed in court would likely influence future security arrangements should Kanu be required to appear again. He stated, “Yes. His dominion, what will happen is that subsequently, if he is to be brought before the courts, there will be extra steps taken to ensure that he doesn’t end up attacking anyone.”
He referenced a specific incident that drew attention, noting, “You heard him telling someone in the courts that God will punish you.” Ologun stressed that such exchanges were avoidable. “So those dramas are really not necessary. You know, we were taught in the law school to focus on issues,” he said. He criticized attempts to frame the case in political or ethnic terms, arguing that the judicial process was clearly defined and supported by applicable legislation. According to him, “Sensationalizing issues does not help. And that is why, for those who are talking about political interpretations and things, I mean, this is a pure process of the law. The charges were clear. And we have laws to back them up.”
Ologun pointed to the core allegations, stating, “Inciting violence. Many have been killed. And these are issues, you know, through his broadcast and everything.” He added that the sentence delivered reflected statutory provisions. “In fact, by virtue of the provisions of the law, he was liable to capital punishment. But that was toned down to, say, life imprisonment.” He concluded by noting that the legal process remains open to further challenge. “But at this point in time, he has the opportunities of going on appeal,” he said.
