Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has addressed the growing controversy surrounding his reported confrontation with some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors at the party’s national secretariat, declaring that he has no fear of losing his position. Wike spoke during an interview from 6;49 aired on Symfoni TV on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

He criticised political leaders who, according to him, abandon their core responsibilities once they attain public office. “Some of us were appointed, you see it as an opportunity to run for governorship. You see the opportunity to be a minister. You see the opportunity to do things that will bring development in the area. And so we abandoned our primary responsibility,” he said. Wike accused some officeholders of prioritising political survival over service delivery. “All you do at that time is to fly you from your region to Abuja every time. The money you’re supposed to use for development, you divert it to satisfy people in order to say that they won’t sack me. I’ve never seen Nigerians who are afraid of being sacked from work,” he stated.

He maintained that public office should not be treated as permanent or guaranteed. “No position is permanent. What’s important for you? I’ve been given an opportunity. What did I use it for? Can you still be on my side? That while I was chairman of South South Development Commission, while I was managing director, while I was in the board, what were our achievements?” he asked. Speaking on political pressure, Wike stressed the need for discipline. “Pressure will come, left, right, and center. Pressure will come. There is no position you will occupy that there will be no pressure. It’s the ability to say, look, this I won’t do. This I won’t do. If that’s going to take your job, it doesn’t matter,” he said.

He added that leadership should not be driven by fear. “And so be happy, be satisfied. I’m sitting here today at the Minister of FCT, in Nigeria it’s difficult. People want you to do it the way they have been doing. So when you say no, you become an enemy. But don’t be afraid to be an enemy and do the right thing. Don’t be afraid. Do the right thing,” Wike declared. Emphasising allegiance to the current administration, he said, “Support Mr. President. Support Mr. President. I’m loyal to the president that appointed you. Your loyalty is to Mr. President. Yes, people may have made a recommendation.” View, More,
