Former Niger State governor, Babangida Aliyu, has explained why some top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Nyesom Wike and Samuel Anyanwu, were expelled during the party’s recent convention in Ibadan. Speaking at an event after returning from the convention, Aliyu said the party needed to take bold steps to fix long-standing problems that had weakened it for years.

In a video shared by SYMFONI TV from 2:47, Aliyu revealed that despite conflicting court orders, one telling them not to attend the convention and another insisting they must, party leaders chose to go ahead with the Ibadan gathering. He said they made the trip because they believed it was necessary to repair the party and prepare it to give Nigerians a strong political alternative.

According to him, allowing Nigeria to drift into a one-party system would be dangerous for the country. He argued that competition between political parties keeps leaders accountable and gives citizens real choices during elections. Aliyu also recalled the time when the PDP had as many as 28 governors, saying no one complained then, so people should not panic when the party takes steps to rebuild itself.

He explained that the convention focused on examining the issues and behaviors that had damaged the PDP over time. In his words, “Like surgeons, we removed the cancer that has been part of our party, that has crippled the party.” View, More,
