A new broadcast on the Advocacy for Good Governance YouTube channel on 15th of November , 2025 , has shed fresh light on the real reason Peter Obi filed a lawsuit against activist Deji Adeyanju. Contrary to claims that Obi acted out of political intolerance, the video reveals that the decision was driven by a serious allegation—one Obi insists is not only false but damaging to his integrity.
According to the broadcast, Obi revealed that he sued Deji after the activist publicly alleged that the he offered him money and was corrupt, even claiming that he used government funds to run his family business. Obi described these accusations as grave, deliberate, and far beyond political criticism.
The video also features the testimony of a key witness—a senior Labour Party stakeholder Ike Abonyi , who personally brokered the meeting between Obi and Deji during the buildup to the 2023 elections. The witness, who was physically present throughout the discussion, stated firmly that Obi never offered Deji any money.
He explained that he arranged the meeting because Deji, who at the time had interest in contesting for a House of Representatives seat in Abuja, was seen as someone whose influence could energize the public in favour of the Labour Party. Obi agreed, and both men exchanged stories about their political journeys in what the witness described as “a friendly, lengthy conversation that ended positively.”
