According to Punch News, the General Overseer of the Evangelical Outreach Ministries International in Jos, Plateau State, Prophet Isa El-Buba, spoke with James Abraham about the growing insecurity across the country.
He noted that Nigeria’s security challenges are being poorly managed, pointing to the continuous killings and attacks.
In recent incidents, seven people were reportedly killed in the Riyom community and three more in the Pushit community, both in Plateau State.
Prophet El-Buba condemned these needless killings, describing them as completely unacceptable.
He added that while widespread destruction has reduced in recent weeks, the rise in kidnappings continues to make the situation dire.
He stressed that the problem goes beyond Plateau State, affecting places like Benue, Borno, Zamfara, and several others. The recent Boko Haram attacks in Borno resulting in the deaths of civilians and military officers remain a stark reminder of the nation’s fragile security.
He argued that the government’s response has been insufficient and called for a stronger, more decisive strategy to end the violence.
According to him, insecurity must be addressed directly, just like treating a wound that needs to be properly cleaned before it can heal. He lamented that the country has been operating on falsehoods for too long and that deception is now collapsing under its own weight. He explained that many leaders have long spoken out about this insecurity challenge.
He recalled that the attacks initially targeted Christian communities and that some Fulani Islamic clerics even celebrated it at the time. However, he noted that the violence has now spread more widely, with the Middle Belt particularly affected.
He said, “I know their plan because I was part of it before I converted to Christianity.”
He added that he raised these issues during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.
To address the crisis, he insisted that the perpetrators must be confronted directly, not shielded by political correctness.
He argued that the Fulani population is relatively small and often relies on the Hausa community to advance its objectives.
According to him, Hausas are being drawn into the conflict due to certain religious influences, not by nature or choice.
Prophet El-Buba recalled how Boko Haram weakened when parents became truthful enough to hand over their children involved with the sect. But over time, politicians stepped in and turned the situation into a money-making venture, which allowed the crisis to persist.
He added that anyone who attempts to tackle the problem head-on is often removed or reassigned.
Regarding the current administration’s efforts, he said he has not yet seen concrete results and prefers to withhold judgement for now. He is observing their actions while praying for success but emphasised that the leadership system must give security agencies the freedom to work effectively.
He pointed out that Nigeria has capable professionals ready to confront these problems, but political interference restricts them.
He praised former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, describing him as someone who inspired confidence within the military and was determined to act.
He lamented the loss of soldiers, calling it a painful waste of valuable investment and human life.
Prophet El-Buba urged the President to prioritise national security above sectional interests. He stressed that Nigeria needs leaders who will back the security forces and allow them to carry out their duties without bias.
He also mentioned preparing an open letter to the President, advising him to cooperate more closely with international partners, especially the United States. His message to the President is to take a strong, honest stance, stop building on falsehoods, and empower local communities in collaboration with the military to eradicate banditry and criminality.
According to him, religious leaders must continue to speak boldly and hold the government accountable. President Tinubu, he said, is elected to serve all Nigerians, and citizens must raise their voices when governance falls short. Security chiefs, he added, should place national interest above tribe, religion, or ethnicity.
Prophet El-Buba also expressed support for President Donald Trump’s suggestion of military intervention given Nigeria’s security challenges.
He recalled addressing the American Congress, where he emphasised that Nigeria doesn’t depend on America instead, America benefits from Nigeria.
He described Nigeria as a great nation, rich in natural and human resources, whose stability is vital for global peace and economic stability. View, More,
