The Convener of the Katsina Security Community Initiative, Dr. Bashir Kurfi has condemned the growing boldness of bandit groups operating in Katsina State, revealing that the criminals openly celebrated the killing of a senior police officer.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV from 15:47, Dr. Kurfi recounted the disturbing details surrounding the death of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aminu Umar, a respected officer who served as the Area Commander of Police in Dutsinma.
ACP Umar was shot dead during an ambush in Zakka Forest, Safana Local Government Area, while leading his team on a clearance operation aimed at dislodging bandits terrorizing the region. The attack, carried out by heavily armed criminals, left the community and security agencies in shock.
Dr. Kurfi described what happened afterward as even more troubling. According to him, a notorious bandit leader known as Jankare killed the officer, and the criminals wasted no time in celebrating the act. “When he was killed by Jankare, the following day, the big bandits in the area had a party, they were celebrating the killing of Aminu,” he said during the interview.
He explained that such boldness highlights how deeply entrenched banditry has become, warning that the psychological impact of seeing criminals celebrate the death of a senior police officer could further demoralize both security personnel and communities.
Dr. Kurfi called for stronger military and police operations in affected areas, stressing that security agencies must not allow bandits the freedom to carry out attacks or publicly celebrate acts of violence. View, More,
