In a recent interview on Arise TV from 16:22, public affairs analyst Liborous Oshoma weighed in on the controversial confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Naval Lieutenant Yerima, offering a pointed critique of the minister’s actions during the incident.
Oshoma stated that “Wike became so jobless in his office that he had to take over the job of a clerk.” He explained that the minister’s decision to personally attend the disputed land site was unnecessary and undermined the proper administrative procedures established to handle such matters. According to Oshoma, Wike’s presence escalated tensions and risked creating a public spectacle over a situation that could have been managed by ground officers.
He emphasized that land disputes in the Federal Capital Territory are subject to strict protocols, including issuing formal notices, coordinating with supervising officers, and escalating concerns through appropriate institutional channels. By bypassing these steps, Oshoma argued, the minister not only exposed himself to confrontation but also diminished the authority of the personnel assigned to enforce regulations.
Oshoma further noted that the military officer involved was acting under lawful orders, and any perceived slight or delay could have been addressed through proper communication with higher-ranking officials. He criticized the tendency of public figures to intervene personally in operational matters, warning that such actions often blur the lines of authority and responsibility.
Concluding his remarks, Oshoma stressed that the incident highlights the fragile balance between civilian authority and institutional procedure.
