According to a report by Channels TV, on Friday November 14, 2025, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, a former member of the House of Representatives for the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, has embraced the idea of US “intervention” in Nigeria’s security crises, arguing it should not be viewed as an “invasion.”

He also contended that the entire national insecurity crisis has taken on a ‘Christian genocide’ narrative because the Christian community was the first to draw national and international attention to the killings.

Bagos stressed that external intervention, particularly from the US, is necessary to combat the pervasive insecurity across the nation, which he believes the Nigerian government lacks the capacity to handle alone.

“It’s unfortunate that we have allowed it to take this religious coronation. And the other good side that I looked at the 12 states that the United States have mentioned out for intervention,” Bagos said, welcoming the foreign interest. “And for me I don’t want us to look at it as invasion. It’s intervention.”

He noted that the next step requires the Nigerian government to formally engage with the US to define the terms of this security cooperation.

“it’s now left for the Nigerian government to come to the table with their own bilateral relationship agreement for intervention. The intervention this is where we are lacking to address the issue of insecurity.”

Bagos then used the severity of banditry in predominantly Muslim states like Jigawa and Zamfara to support the argument that the security crisis is a national, rather than a purely religious, problem.

“Because from the 12 states you have Jigawa you have Zamfara who are the majority there? Have people been killed in Jigawa and Zamfara or not? They have been killed. So are you telling me that the majority of the people that are have been killed in Jigawa and Zamfara are Christians? No, they are Muslims.”

However, the former lawmaker concluded by suggesting that the narrative of “Christian genocide” took hold simply because Christians were quicker and more effective at crying out for help, thereby forcing the issue onto the national agenda.

“But who cried out first? The Christians cried out first. And that’s why it has the coronation of Christian genocide. The Christian cried out first.” View, More,
