In a video shared on Facebook, Niger Delta leader and Kalabari chieftain, Asari Dokubo, condemned the defense of violent terrorist groups in Nigeria by Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi. Dokubo criticized attempts to rationalize or excuse the actions of these groups, stressing that such behavior endangers national security and undermines justice.

According to Dokubo, “Nobody should show sympathy to this group of people; those people have no right to be alive.” He made it clear that his statement was directed at the terrorist organizations that Gumi has reportedly defended, noting that their attacks on innocent civilians cannot be justified under any circumstances.

Dokubo argued that these groups thrive when influential figures offer them moral cover and that public sympathy only emboldens further violence. He insisted that religious and community leaders must unequivocally denounce terrorism, stating that moral courage requires speaking truth against those who harm society.

He also called on government authorities to ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law, emphasizing that justice must be swift and transparent. Dokubo warned that any leniency or excuses for such violent actors risks prolonging insecurity and undermining public confidence in the state’s ability to protect its citizens.

His remarks have sparked widespread debate online, with many applauding his firm stance against terrorism, while others urged caution to prevent rhetoric from escalating tensions. Analysts noted that Dokubo’s comments underscore the urgent need for accountability and the importance of leaders confronting threats without compromise.
