Activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has criticised the Nigerian military’s involvement in the ongoing land confrontation between personnel stationed at a disputed site and officials of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration. He expressed his views in a post shared on his official Instagram page on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, following a widely circulated video showing a tense exchange at the location.
The video, which showed uniformed officers and several officials in a heated discussion near a fenced property, triggered reactions across social media. Sowore argued that the military was diverting attention from its constitutional duty of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
In his post, he stated: “The military’s primary responsibility is to safeguard the country’s borders, but instead, it is devoting resources to protect a parcel of land for a high-ranking officer, allegedly acting on ‘orders.’”
He added that the situation reflected a broader governance problem. “This scenario is the pervasive self-interest among officials who cater to the interests of a privileged minority at the expense of national protection with @Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS not being an exception.” Sowore also referenced a past incident involving the current FCT Minister during his tenure as governor of Rivers State: “As governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike too once stood in the way of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officers, hin blazing, stopping them from arresting a corrupt judge friend of his. What a country!”

The confrontation at the site earlier in the day had already drawn public attention, as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike accused soldiers of obstructing officials enforcing land regulations. Wike had insisted that no development could proceed on the land without proper documentation and pledged not to succumb to intimidation. View, More,
