In a recent interview shared by Arise News from 10:21, the Chair of Election Analysis at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), Professor Victor Adetula, analyzed the outcome of the just-concluded Anambra State governorship election and its wider political implications.

Adetula observed that the results revealed a major shift in the region’s political landscape, noting that former dominant forces, including the Labour Party and its leader Peter Obi, have experienced a visible decline in influence. He attributed this to the changing dynamics of political alliances and the emergence of new strategic partnerships among political elites in the South East and beyond.

According to him, “A new political bargaining has emerged that has suppressed the Peter Obi movement and what it represent both at the regional and the national politics.”

He explained that while the Labour Party gained strong momentum during the 2023 general elections, recent developments suggest that the movement’s regional appeal has weakened. The rise of renewed political alignments between influential figures such as Governor Chukwuma Soludo of APGA and President Bola Tinubu’s camp, he noted, has reshaped voter loyalty and political direction in Anambra and other parts of the South East.

Professor Adetula concluded that the evolving power structure signals a redefinition of political identity in the region, one that may have lasting consequences for Peter Obi’s future ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections. View, More,
