A religious group in Osun State, the Joint Muslims Action Forum (JOMAF), has questioned Governor Ademola Adeleke’s religious identity, asserting he should be regarded as a Christian. They argued that if Christians in other states used similar criteria, no Christian would qualify to govern Osun. JOMAF is calling for a Muslim candidate in the 2026 election, citing longstanding political imbalance. This was reported by VANGUARD on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
In a statement issued by JAMAF’s Chairman and Secretary, Alhaji Kola Uzamat and Barr. Qaasim Odedeji, Muslims in Osun have consistently backed Christian governors, demonstrating a high level of tolerance.
They argue that this generosity has not been mirrored in other Nigerian states, where Muslim candidates are often sidelined
JOMAF pointed to states like Ondo and Ekiti as examples of regions where Christians dominate leadership without offering similar opportunities to Muslims.
They warned that if Osun Muslims adopted the same stance, Christian candidates would face rejection.
Their statement stated,
“Osun Muslims have demonstrated unmatched political tolerance even more than necessary. Yet, it seems this tolerance is being taken for granted. If we were to behave like Christians in Ondo, Ekiti, Plateau, Edo, and Benue, no Christian would be considered deserving of the governorship in Osun State.” View, More,
