Security strategist Dr. David Okoror has expressed deep concern over the continued loss of trained security personnel to violent attacks across the country.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Dr. Okoror recalled a tragic incident where dozens of rangers were ambushed and killed despite their professional training and preparedness.

“Nigeria had people that were trained as rangers, they were ambushed and killed, about 22 of them or so,” he said, describing the attack as a painful reminder of how fragile the nation’s internal security remains.

Dr. Okoror noted that such incidents underscore serious lapses in intelligence gathering, coordination, and operational planning within Nigeria’s security system. According to him, the fact that well-trained rangers could be so easily overpowered by armed attackers shows that the country’s fight against banditry and insurgency is being undermined by systemic weaknesses.

He emphasized that beyond equipping personnel with weapons and tactical training, there must be stronger investment in real-time intelligence and surveillance technology to prevent ambushes and protect troops on the field. “The problem is not just courage or competence; it’s about the absence of actionable intelligence and the right support systems,” he explained.

The security expert further urged the federal government to honor the memory of the slain officers by ensuring that their sacrifices lead to meaningful reforms in the security sector. He also called for better welfare and insurance for families of fallen personnel, who often face neglect after such tragic losses. View, More,
